Herbert Hoover
August 10, 1874 – October 20, 1964

31st President of the United States (1929–1933).

Hoover, a trained engineer, believed that the government and the economy could be improved by experts who could identify the problems and solve them.

Hoover seldom mentioned civil rights while he was President. He believed that African-Americans and other races could improve themselves with education and wanted the races assimilated into white culture.

He also believed in the importance of voluntarism and the role of individuals in playing a role in American society and the economy.

He wrote The Basis for Lasting Peace (1945) and several volumes of autobiography.
