August 2, 1924 – December 1, 1987

James Arthur Baldwin was an American novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social critic.

He explored yet unspoken intricacies of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies.

His novels and plays fictionalize fundamental personal questions and dilemmas amid complex social and psychological pressures thwarting the equitable integration of not only blacks yet also of male homosexuals.

“Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up”.

James Arthur Baldwin

“Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within.”

James Arthur Baldwin
